The Australian Immigration Department has recently published an article in which they claimed that tourists to the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2015 will be able to visit both Australia and New Zealand on the one visa.
This is a bit of an over statement as in reality visitors to New Zealand who hold an Australian tourist visa during the Cup will be granted a tourist visa on arrival in New Zealand rather than there really being one visa covering the two countries. Interestingly, fans with a New Zealand visa will not enjoy the same privilege and will need to apply for an Australian visa separately.
As such, if you are intending attending the Cup it may be slightly simpler to apply for the Australian visa and take advantage of the on arrival New Zealand visa grant although depending on what country you come from it may not particularly matter. Definitely a matter to discuss with your travel agency when making travel plans.
Please note that this arrangement is a once off and will only be available during the period 26 January 2015 to 5 April 2015.
